After every job we do in Clermont, Winter Garden, Ocoee, and surrounding Central Florida areas, we try to leave our customers with something useful — a tip, a heads-up, something that makes them a safer and more informed driver. Safety is our number one priority. Here are the most important safety tips we share regularly.

Safety Tip #1 — Never Work Under a Car Supported Only by a Floor Jack

This is the single most important safety rule in automotive work — and it's one we take extremely seriously at Easy Fix Auto. A floor jack is used to lift a vehicle, not to support it while you work underneath. Jacks can fail, slip, or be accidentally bumped.

Always use jack stands when a vehicle needs to be elevated for work underneath it. Place them on the vehicle's designated jack points — your owner's manual shows where these are. Lower the vehicle onto the stands after lifting. Only then is it safe to work underneath.

At Easy Fix Auto, we use ramps for oil changes and proper jack stand setups for any work that requires going underneath. We never cut corners on this — ever.

⚠️ Serious Warning

Never use cinder blocks, bricks, or stacked wood as jack stand substitutes. They can shift or crumble without warning. This is a life-safety issue — not just a best practice.

Safety Tip #2 — Your Brakes Are Your Most Important Safety System

We say this to every customer after a brake job: do not delay brake maintenance. If you hear consistent squealing when you brake, grinding metal sounds, or feel vibration in the pedal — get it checked immediately. Your brakes are the only thing between your vehicle and whatever is in front of you.

In Florida's stop-and-go traffic around Clermont, Winter Garden, and Ocoee — worn brakes are especially dangerous. The distances involved in highway stops at 70+ mph with degraded braking performance can be the difference between an accident and a near miss.

Brake pad replacement starts at $80 per axle. The cost of an accident is immeasurably higher. Don't wait.

Safety Tip #3 — Check Your Tires Before Long Drives

Florida's heat is brutal on tires. Before any long drive — a trip to Orlando, Tampa, or beyond — do a quick visual inspection:

  • Check tire pressure when tires are cold (morning is best). Proper pressure is on the sticker inside your driver's door jam — not on the tire itself
  • Look for cracks, bulges, or embedded objects in the tread
  • Check tread depth — if you can see the top of Lincoln's head on a penny inserted into the tread, it's time for new tires
  • Make sure your spare tire is inflated if you have one

Safety Tip #4 — Know When NOT to DIY

We respect customers who want to handle their own car maintenance — there's real value in that. But some repairs should only be done by a professional, and the line is generally: if it affects your ability to control or stop the vehicle, leave it to us.

  • Brake work — Incorrectly installed brakes can fail completely. The consequences are severe.
  • Steering components — A loose tie rod or ball joint can cause sudden loss of vehicle control
  • Suspension repairs — Impacts handling and tire wear significantly
  • Fuel system work — Fire risk if done incorrectly

Easy Fix Auto is here for exactly these situations. We come to your Clermont, Winter Garden, Ocoee, Windermere, or Horizon West location and handle the safety-critical stuff so you can focus on the road.

Safety Tip #5 — Keep an Emergency Kit in Your Car

We recommend every Central Florida driver keep these basics in their vehicle:

  • Jumper cables or a portable jump starter
  • Flashlight with fresh batteries
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Reflective triangles or road flares
  • Phone charger or portable power bank
  • Easy Fix Auto's number saved in your phone: (321) 430-5999

We're available 7 days a week from 7AM to 7PM throughout Central Florida. Save our number — we hope you never need it urgently, but we're here when you do.
